Sharpest result. Takes a few minutes for a 30 second clip.
Scales the short side to 1080 and keeps the shape, so 720p becomes 1920 × 1080.
or drop it on the frame. MP4, MOV or WebM up to 10 minutes.
Will upscaling 720p to 1080p make my video look better?
Whether it is worth it to upscale video to 1080p depends on where you start. The lower the starting resolution, the bigger the visible change. Upscaling sharpens what is already in the frame; it does not invent detail the camera never recorded.
- 360p to 1080p (3x)
- The biggest change. Soft, blocky edges come back clean.
- 480p to 1080p (2.25x)
- Clearly crisper than a normal resize. Text and outlines become sharp; fine texture like skin or fur turns a little smoother.
- 720p to 1080p (1.5x)
- A small step. Outlines get a little crisper, fine texture a little smoother. In our tests the gain over a normal resize was modest.
- 1080p or more
- Already Full HD. The free tool leaves it as is.
Tested 8 Nov 2026 on four 1440p stock clips (a face, neon signs, a cat, a party), scaled down and upscaled back to 1080p, then compared with the original. Motion blur stays in every case.
1080p or 2x size?
- 1080p
- Scales the short side to 1080 pixels and keeps the shape. A 1280 × 720 clip becomes 1920 × 1080, and a vertical 720 × 1280 phone clip becomes 1080 × 1920.
- 2x size
- Doubles width and height, so 360p becomes 720p. The free tool stops at 1080p, so 2x on a 720p clip also gives you 1080p.
How long a 30 second clip takes
The time depends on the resolution you start from, because the AI works on every pixel of every frame.
- about 3 minfrom 360p, 0.20 s per frame
- about 5.4 minfrom 480p, 0.36 s per frame
- about 12.5 minfrom 720p, 0.83 s per frame
AI enhance to 1080p on an Apple M2 Max in Chrome, 8 Nov 2026, 30 fps. Times cover the AI model and the resize to 1080p, not reading and writing the video file. A laptop with integrated graphics can be 5 to 10 times slower. Cloud processing does one minute of 480p in about 40 seconds.

Questions about upscaling video to 1080p
Can I upscale 720p to 1080p for free?
Yes. Drop the clip, keep the output on 1080p and run it. There is no signup and no watermark. The free tool handles clips up to 10 minutes and shows how long yours will take before you start.
Is an upscaled video real 1080p?
The file is a true 1920 × 1080 video and plays as 1080p anywhere. How sharp it looks depends on the source. AI enhance makes outlines crisper, but it can't add detail the camera never captured, and fine texture can come out a little smoother.
Does it work with vertical phone videos?
Yes. 1080p keeps the shape of your video, so a vertical 720 × 1280 clip becomes 1080 × 1920.
Will it show as 1080p on YouTube?
A 1920 × 1080 file gets a 1080p playback option on YouTube and most other platforms.
How long does 720p to 1080p take?
In our test, 0.83 seconds per frame on a fast Mac GPU, so about 12.5 minutes for a 30 second clip. A laptop with integrated graphics can take 5 to 10 times longer.
Can it upscale to 4K?
Not in the free tool. Output stops at 1080p to keep the wait and memory use reasonable in a browser. 4K is available with cloud processing on the Plus and Pro packs.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is read, upscaled and saved inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.
